Dear Ms. Moriello,
Thank you for contacting us concerning your flight credit with United. Unfortunately, credit is only valid for a year from the date it was issued. Your travel credit would have been only valid up until January 2002. For more information on booking an entirely new reservation please contact our reservations center at 1-800-UNITED1 (1-800-864-8331)
I appreciate the opportunity to respond.
Regards,
Deborah Victors United Airlines Customer Relations

Dear Guy I Overhear Daily in Whole Foods,
Any attractiveness you may have gained from compulsively working out has been negated by your pompous, daily bragging about it.
Sincerely, Beckie

Yesterday I was polite and didn't say, "My mistake, your Honor. I thought justice was blind." in response to being reprimanded for my clothes.

Isn't the name "Greek Fiesta" just a hysterical name for a restaurant? I mean, unless "fiesta" is a Greek word also.
----------------- I'm torn about how to proceed with my online presence. I prefer facebook to livejournal, but facebook status updates are so fleeting. I've heard it suggested that maybe Orkut will get with the program and we'll all switch over there. Not that I want to migrate again. I just want my damn status updates to be a bit more permanent. Which brings us to Twitter. That just doesn't seem satisfactory. (Plus I haven't quite figured it out yet.) Sigh... life's so hard.
I swear I don't have as much free time as this post would have you believe.

I'm mainly posting this because about 6 months ago I said I would and I just ran across my PMBR stuff. But also because I doubt I'll ever get sick of bitching about law school.
Our first year classes are supposedly the most important. If you go the traditional route, your first year grades determine your summer jobs, which you're supposed to hope will eventually become post-school employment.
IOW, first year grades are *Really Important*.
The bar exam emphasizes these *Important* 1st-year subjects. However, (and here comes my thesis statement), there is almost no correlation between what's tested on the bar exam and what we learn in law school. To exemplify, below are my first year grades and my PMBR pre-test scores ranked best-->worst. Notice the non-existant correlation.
1L Grades torts criminal property contracts constitutional
PMBR Pre-test contracts criminal property constiutional torts
And just for fun, let's throw in a comparison of how much I had studied for each class in school.
Studied constitutional property torts contracts criminal (to be fair, crim was worth fewer credits, so logically one would study less)
Silly legal education... Oh well, at least it prepared us for actual practice. (HA!!)

Saddlebacking: sad•dle•back•ing \ˈsa-dəl-ˈba-kiŋ\ vb [fr. Saddleback Church] (2009): the phenomenon of Christian teens engaging in unprotected anal sex in order to preserve their virginities
After attending the Purity Ball, Heather and Bill saddlebacked all night because she’s saving herself for marriage.

There are 2 new middle-aged guys working at Brueggers. Both appear middle-class (aside from, ya know, being 40 and working at Brueggers, not as a manager). Bad sign about the economy, or a fluke?
The Castle has come to an end, 7 years after its inception. They're selling a bunch of the furniture and other crap they've acquired. I might buy some. I tried to say goodbye to the house, but my brain is pretty incapable of accepting final departures. I perpetually think that I'll see various things, places, and people from my past. When I left Buenavista this summer, the old lady I was living with cried. I couldn't understand why she was crying. First of all, it seems silly that she's going to miss someone that she's known casually for 2 months, especially since she's like 80 and has known a lot of people. But also, I was still standing there, in that house with her, and it was completely real. There was nothing to miss. And I still see it fully in my brain, and I (illogically) knew that I'll go there again. It's illogical because I know that I won't go, because I have no desire to. Although on a practical level I certainly could. This stands in contrast to my friend Abdul in Lamu (island off the coast of Kenya). I would love to go back there and see him again, but I almost certainly won't. And yet my brain is convinced that I'll return to Lamu. Those experiences can't possibly be over. My brain is stupid.
I also miss Europe. Namely because you didn't have to worry about staying sober enough to drive.

( I go to the jail pretty frequently. )
The following quote from House is great:
Foreman: [Ha! Your private investigator] couldn't find anything [about me].
House: You're right. That's because you haven't done anything stupid, spontaneous or even vaguely interesting since you were 17. And that's just sad.

I found something that simply must be preserved. The following quotes are from the professor conducting my 5 day (?) TA training in 2001. To say he's a reactionary Catholic with many children is to put it mildly.
"You get the influence of television and TV and God knows what else." (re: undergrads writing with cliches)
"It's laid on thick. It's like too much cream cheese on your bagel." (re: the result of an undergrad's thesaurus use)
"I still shudder over split infinitives."
"I'm not a big self-esteem builder, I must admit."
"Sometimes the most likeable people are sinners."
"I have a hard time exercising restraint." (re: his tendency to over-correct students' papers)
"I will tell you another dirty little secret." (no, it wasn't anything good.)
"I'm still more of a quill and inkpot person myself." (re: the internet)
"Someone has neglected the religious education of our students." (Yes, this guy was hired to teach at a state school.)

I'm pretty sure I accomplish less in the winter because the days are shorter. I'm more productive in daylight.
Lately, I've been working 6 days/week, so Saturdays are the only days I have to be productive, since even when I don't work late, by the time I get home it's dark. I know that's a silly reason. Maybe I'm just getting old. We'll see once spring comes.
Today I've been continuing with unpacking from the move, and going through boxes I haven't been through in years. I found a journal I wrote for Spanish class in 1998. I'm so glad I saved it! It's great reading what I wrote about life 10 years ago.
It motivated me to post here more often.

You know how sometimes you're not hungry, but then you taste a little something and suddenly you're starved?
I just got starved after licking the glue on a few envelopes. Wacky.
