I found something that simply must be preserved. The following quotes are from the professor conducting my 5 day (?) TA training in 2001. To say he's a reactionary Catholic with many children is to put it mildly.

"You get the influence of television and TV and God knows what else." (re: undergrads writing with cliches)

"It's laid on thick. It's like too much cream cheese on your bagel." (re: the result of an undergrad's thesaurus use)

"I still shudder over split infinitives."

"I'm not a big self-esteem builder, I must admit."

"Sometimes the most likeable people are sinners."

"I have a hard time exercising restraint." (re: his tendency to over-correct students' papers)

"I will tell you another dirty little secret." (no, it wasn't anything good.)

"I'm still more of a quill and inkpot person myself." (re: the internet)

"Someone has neglected the religious education of our students." (Yes, this guy was hired to teach at a state school.)

Television AND tv? I think that one's my favorite.
